Old Goa 【Old Goa】 Old Government in the West Bank of India, Goa State. It is situated inland in the Mandovi River downstream, about 10 km from the mouth of the estuary. It was the capital of the Portuguese colony, but it was abandoned by the epidemic of repeated epidemics and moved to the current state capital of Panaji in the 18th century. Colonial buildings such as the Bomges church where the body of Francisco Xavier was placed and the St. Francis church of Assisi remain.
