Sakata Shoichi [Sakata Masakazu] [1911 - 1970] Physicist. Born in Tokyo. Professor Nagai. Cooperated with Yukawa Hideki and research the meson theoretically. He raised the theory about the divergence of the self energy of electrons, and made a foundation of Shinichiro Tomonaga's renormalization theory. We proposed a composite model of elementary particles "Sakata model" and opened a new stage of elementary particle theory. さかた‐しょういち【坂田昌一】 ［1911～1970］物理学者。東京生まれ。名大教授。湯川秀樹に協力して中間子を理論的に研究。電子の自己エネルギーの発散についての理論を起こし、朝永振一郎の繰り込み理論の素地を作った。素粒子の複合模型「坂田模型」を提唱して素粒子論の新段階を開いた。
