Gelsinsk is a city of the Russian Federation Nizhny and Novgorod State. I will face the Oka River. The population is 285,000 (2004). The name of the town is attributed to Belarusian-born Polish revolutionary Felix Gelsinski, who is known for establishing a secret police (Cheeker). It was built in 1920 and was called Laschapino until 1929. Since becoming a city in 1930, it has greatly developed as an industrial city and became one of the center of the chemical industry of the Soviet Union. It was also a production base of chemical weapons during the Cold War period of the East-West during the second half of the 20th century.
