Girokastra
Girokastra (Albanian: Gjirokastër, Greek: Αργυρόκαστρο, Turkish: Ergiri, Italian: Argirocastro) is a city with a population of 43,000 in southern Albania. It is a historical area in the Epirus region, the capital of Jirokastra and Georgastra. The old town is registered as a World Heritage site, and there are many historical heritage built by rare Ottoman era townscapes and farmers. Girokastra is located in the valley between Mt. Georgastra and Dolino River, and the altitude is 300 m. Girokastra Castle overlooks the city and the Girokastrana National Culture Festival is held every five years. Jirokastra is home from the Communist leader Envel Hodjja and the famous author Ismail Cadare of Albania, and the city is the Ecolem-Chabbey University in the city. ...
