Skellig Michael - An island on the Atlantic Ocean of southwestern Ireland. Saint Fionan opened a monastery around the 7th century and a cathedral dedicated to St. Michael was built in the 10th and 11th centuries. Although the monastery was shut down in the 16th century, the monaster and the chapel of the early Christian era of Ireland still remained, and it was registered as a World Heritage (cultural heritage) in 1996. スケリッグ‐マイケル【Skellig Michael】 アイルランド南西部の大西洋上にある島。7世紀頃に聖フィオナンが修道院を開き、10~11世紀には聖ミカエルをまつる聖堂が建てられた。16世紀に修道院は閉ざされたが、アイルランドの初期キリスト教時代の石積みの僧房や礼拝堂が現在も残っており、1996年に世界遺産(文化遺産)として登録された。
