Stellitamac (Russian: Стерлитамак, examples of Latin script: Sterlitamak, Bashkir: Стәрлетамаҡ, Stärletamaq) is a city located in the Republic of Bashkortostan on the western side of Russian Ural Mountains. After Ufa, the capital of the Republic, it is the second most populous city in the Republic. The population is 273,486 people in the 2010 census, 264,362 people in the 2002 census and 247,457 in the 1989 Soviet census. It is located on the western foot of the southern part of the Ural Mountains (Europe side), 50 km east to the Ural's divide ridge. The city spreads to the left bank of the Bellaya River, a large tributary of the Volga River system. The stella river which is the origin of the city name flows through the city, merges with the Ashkadar River out of town, and joins the Bellaya river nearby. It is 130 kilometers south of Ufa, the capital of the Republic of Bashkortostan, south of the Republic.
