Teyatyaneng (Teyateyaneng) is the city of Lesotho. Population 75,115 people (2005). It is the second largest city of Lesotho next to the capital city Maseru. Located in the northwestern part of Lesotho, it is the capital of Berea. Teyatyanen is a Soto word meaning "early sandy land". Teyatyanen is located 40 km north of the capital Maseru and is located along the national highway No. 1 stretching along the border with South Africa. The city is on a highland with an altitude of 1,600 m. Teyatyanen was built as the capital of the Berea region by Masupha chief in 1886.
