Tobolisk
The tobolsk (Тобольск, Tobolsk) is a city of Russian Federation, Tyumen State. The population is 96,400 (2001). Located on the east side of the Ural Mountains, at the confluence of the Tivoli and the Ertisi River, 247 km northeast of Tyumen. In 1586 a fortress (Kremlin) was built by Yelmark and was registered as a city in 1590. It was the oldest Russian city in Siberia and was the central city of Siberia in terms of military affairs, government, politics, religion, etc. until the Governor's Office of West Siberia was transferred from Tobolisk to Omsk in the 1820s. Until 1917 the prefecture capital of the tobollish state. Mendeleev known for the discovery of the Periodic Table of the Elements and Nikolai Afanasiyev of the composer are from Tovorsk. ...
