Voltaire François-Marie Arou ("Voltaire" François-Marie Arouet, November 21, 1694 - May 30, 1778) is a French philosopher, writer, literary and historian. Historically, along with John Rock, a British philosopher, is considered to be a person representing the Enlightenment. He also worked as an academic scholar along with Duni Diderot and Jean Le Ron D'Alembert. A child of the notary of Paris. Last name is also written "Aloe".
