Now it is prevalent all over the world. 빈대는 빈대과에 딸린 곤충이다. 몸길이는 5mm 안팎이고, 둥글납작한 모양이며 몸 빛은 붉은색을 띤 갈색이다. 몸이 작고, 편평한 타원형이어서 아주 좁은 틈에 숨을 수 있다. 앞날개는 매우 짧으며, 뒷날개는 퇴화하고 다리는 세 쌍, 온 몸에 짧은 털이 났다. 불완전 변태이며 어린벌레는 다섯 번 탈피하여 성충이 된다. 성충은 물체의 틈에 100~250개의 알을 낳는다. 알은 1~2주 만에 부화하여 1주일 후에 피를 빨수 있으며, 4주일 후에 자란벌레가 된다. 특유한 악취를 풍기며, 밤에 활동하여 사람의 피를 빨아먹는다. 빈대에 물리면 몹시 가렵기 때문에 사람과 작은 동물에게는 심각한 해충이 될 수 있다. 그러나 병을 전염시키지는 않는다. 아시아 남부 원산. 지금은 온 세계에 널리 퍼져 있다.
