It is the dried outpost of Swertia japonica Makino which is the sweet bitter apple and plant. They grow and plant in mountains and fields. When it blooms in the fall, it is extracted from its roots, shoveling the soil, washing it with water, and drying it in the sun. The main ingredient, bitter tasting glycoside (sperthamarin, etc.), shows the stomach effect. It is 10 times more than Yongdam (龍 膽), but the bitterness is weakened during the storage process. Digestive disorders and appetite are used for sluggishness. 0.03 to 0.15 g of powder is eaten as a powder. 담미당약 용담과 식물인 쓴풀 Swertia japonica Makino의 전초를 말린 것이다. 각지의 산과 들에서 자라며 심기도 한다. 가을철 꽃이 필 때 뿌리째 뽑아 흙을 털고 물에 씻어 햇볕에 말린다. 주요 성분인 쓴맛 배당체(스웨르티아마린 등)가 건위(健胃) 작용을 나타낸다. 용담(龍膽)보다 10배쯤 더 쓰나 보관 과정에 쓴맛이 약해진다. 소화 장애와 식욕이 부진한 데 쓴다. 가루 0.03~0.15g을 산제로 먹는다.
