The black-headed spider monkey is a species of spider monkey that lives in Central America and South America and belongs to the New World Monkey. It is found in Colombia, Ecuador and Panama. Primate zoologists such as Colin Groves classify the black-tailed spider monkeys as separate species, as categorized by Kellogg and Goldman in 1944, but Froelich in 1991, Collins and Dubach in 2001, and Nieves in 2005 It is classified as a subspecies of the 1st instar spider monkey.
