tourism
Tourism is a journey that is mainly for the purpose of diversion or leisure. The World Tourism Organization defines tourists as "people who stay and travel outside the normal environment for a period not exceeding one year for purposes not related to activities that reward recipients, businesses, or places of visit." Tourism has become a popular leisure activity around the world. In 2006 there were 842,000,000 international tourists. Tourism is essential in many countries because of the income generated by the consumption of goods and services of tourists, the business tax reaping from the tourism industry, and the employment opportunities of the tourism and related service industries. These service industries include transportation services such as cruise ships, taxis, accommodation such as hotels, restaurants, bars, and services such as hot springs and resorts.
