The Center for Korean Studies is a research and educational organization of the Republic of Korea established to conduct Korean Studies through in-depth research and education on Korean culture. Other public organizations under the Ministry of Education, such as the Foundation for Humanities and Social Sciences, researching Korean and foreign researchers in Korea and abroad, collecting, researching, translating and publishing classical materials, Development and dissemination of Korean-related content, and computerization of academic information for Korean Studies. In June 1978, it was established as the Korea Mental and Cultural Institute under the Law for Promotion of the Korean Mental and Cultural Institute in the Law No. 3116 in June 1978. In 1980, the Korean Studies Graduate School was opened. In 2005, the Korean Studies Central Research Institute Law was promulgated. It is located at 323 Hao Street, Bundang-gu, Seongnam-si, Gyeonggi-do.

한국학중앙연구원은 한국 문화의 심층연구 및 교육 등을 통하여 한국학을 진행하기 위해 설립된 대한민국의 연구 및 교육조직이다. 교육부 산하 기타공공기관인 재단법인이며 한국 문화에 대한 인문 사회과학적 연구, 국내외 한국학 분야 연구 요원 양성, 고전 자료의 수집, 연구, 번역 및 출판 등 한국학 연구와 한국민족문화대백과사전, 한국향토문화전자대전등의 한국학관련 콘텐츠 개발 및 보급 그리고 한국학을 위한 학술정보의 전산화 등의 연구활동과 관련 사업들을 벌이고 있다. 1978년 6월 법률 제3116호 한국정신문화연구원육성법에 따라 "한국정신문화연구원"으로 설립되었으며 1980년에는 한국학대학원을 개원하였고 2005년에 한국학중앙연구원육성법이 공포되면서 현재의 이름으로 개칭되었다. 경기도 성남시 분당구 하오개로 323에 있다.
