Inuvik
{{}} Inuvik is a city in the northwest Northwest Territories of Canada. Population 3,484. It is located in the delta region near the mouth of the Mackenzie River in the northwest Northwest Territories. It is located in the Arctic Circle, and has been constructed as a permanent settlement within the Arctic Circle by the government. The site was established in 1953 and construction began. It was promoted to the town in 1970. The name "Inuvik" comes from the fact that Eskimo is where people live. With the city as its final stop, Dempster Road is the only public road available north of the North to the Arctic Circle. It is a center in the Arctic Circle, equipped with various facilities, has an oil exploration base in the vicinity, and is also important as an academic research base. The Catholic cathedral with its igloo shape is the most famous building here.
