Chosun University is a private university in Gwangju, Korea. As the first private university in Korea and the first private university in Korea, it was founded in September 1946 under the founding spirit of "cultivating the talents of the local community to contribute to the establishment of a national nation." Based on the foundation of the Chosun University, Was established. In November of the same year, the university was renamed the Chosun University in hopes that it would be possible to build a university to raise talent across the nation rather than a local university in Gwangju in November of the same year. On May 26, 1948, Chosun University was established. It was influenced by the establishment of private universities in Japan during the Japanese colonial rule but it was not directly influenced by the foundation. In order to overthrow the foundation, to democratize the institute and to make the institute autonomous, the university reform movement in 1987-88, The corporation was transferred to a temporary boarding system dispatched by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology and the Dispute Resolution Committee of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology.

조선대학교는 대한민국 광주광역시에 있는 사립 종합대학이다. 지방 최초의 사학이자 한국 최초의 민립대학 으로서 1946년 9월 ‘민족국가 수립에 기여할 지역사회의 인재를 양성’이라는 설립 정신 아래 7만 2,000여 명으로 이루어진 조선대학설립동지회에 의거하여 광주야간대학원으로 설립되었다. 같은 해 11월 광주의 지역다운 대학이 아닌 전국의 인재를 키우는 대학이 조성되기를 바라서 조선대학으로 명칭을 변경하였고 1948년 5월 26일 재단법인 조선대학이 설립인가되었으며 1953년 종합대학으로 승격되었다. 일제 강점기의 민립대학설립운동에 영향받았으나 설립과 관련하여 직접 영향받지는 않았고 비리 재단 축출과 학원 민주화와 학원 자주화를 달성하고자 1987년에서 1988년까지 학내에서 일어났던 대학 개혁 운동인 1·8 항쟁 이후 학교법인은 교육과학기술부 산하 사학분쟁조정위원회에서 파견하는 임시이사 체제로 이어져 오다가 2010년 22년만에 정이사 체제로 전환하였다.
