Paper, and textile industries. 카라야껌 별명 인도 껌. 인디안토라칸, Sterculia urens나무(인도고원지대)의 수액에 함유되어 있는 다당류. 주된 사슬은 α-D-갈락토오스, L-람노오스로 이루어져 있고, 이 갈락토오스잔기에다가 β-D-글루코오스 또는 β-D-갈락토오스잔기가 각각 1,3 또는 1, 2 결합하여 부분적으로 아세틸화도 하고 있다. 냉수에는 3~4%밖에 용해되지 않지만 가열하면 용해성은 좋아진다. 용액은 반투명하며 점도가 높다. 식품의 증점·안정제로 이용된다. 제지, 섬유공업에서도 이용가치가 높다.
