Cape horse mackerel is long and has big head. The rear end of the upper jaw reaches the front end of the eye, and the lower jaw slightly protrudes. Oil eyelid develops, black spots on the upper part of the gill lid, and the back is gray to blue. The bottom is silver or white. It lives on the continental shelf or sandy bottom of 500m depth. It rises to the water for eating at night and stays near the floor during the day. The larvae eat mainly copepods and the fish eat fish and various invertebrates. 케이프전갱이 몸은 길고 머리는 크다. 위턱의 뒤끝은 눈 앞 끝에 이르고 아래턱이 약간 돌출한다. 기름 눈꺼풀이 발달하고, 아가미뚜껑의 윗부분에 검은 반점이 있으며 등쪽은 회색에서 푸른색을 띄는 녹색이다. 배쪽은 은색이나 흰색을 띈다.500m 수심의 대륙붕이나 모래 바닥에 서식하고밤에는 먹이를 먹기위해 수면으로 상승하고 낮에는 바닥 근처에 머문다. 치어는 주로 요각류를 먹고 성어는어류나 다양한 무척추동물을 먹는다.
