Lansing is the state capital of Michigan in southern Michigan. It occupies most of the Inghams and the northern part of Eaton, and is the only province not the county seat. It stretches to the point where the Grand and Red Sedge rivers meet in the southern Michigan state, and is located northwest of Detroit. The Metropolitan population is 447,728, of which African-Americans comprise more than 27% of the population. Hundreds of industries have been moving in the Metropolitan area, automobiles and their parts, and the gasoline engine industry has developed. It is also a center of trade for a rich farm surrounding. Trains, buses and trucks are coming and going in the city. The city newspaper "Lansing State Journal" is. East Lansing is the seat of Michigan State University. Settlers first entered Lansing in 1837, and the Legislature elected to inherit Lansing from Detroit to the state capital in 1847. It was urbanized twelve years later.
