Mitterrand is a French politician. Participating in the resistance during World War II, he served as President of the French Socialist Party in 1971, twice in 1981 and 1988 (1981-1995) and promoted political and economic integration of France and Western Europe. Although he was the first president from the Socialist Party, he abandoned socialist economic policies and adopted liberal economic policies in his early years.
