The body is about 50-58.5 cm long and eats figs, bamboo, buds, invertebrates and grains in the rainforest. Sometimes called a dog - an ape, because of a dog - like snout, but it is not closer to an ape than any other Old World monkey. The Sulawesi island of Indonesia is the main destination.
