Sloth Bear
Sloth Bear is a species of bears and is the only species in the slow bears. India, Nepal, Pakistan and Bangladesh, and the herds in Sri Lanka are classified as subspecies. It was once confused as a sloth, but reclassified as a bear. The slow bears look similar to Asian black bears, but can be distinguished by long toenails, wrinkled hair and long snout. There is a white pattern of half-moon or V-shaped on the chest. It is about 150-190 centimeters in body length, and it takes three years for sexual maturity. It uses long claws and snouts to lick predominantly ants, but it is an omnivorous species that eats honey and other plant foods. Currently, the slow bears are threatened by loss of connection between the populations due to loss of habitat, and collection for stunning. The subspecies Sri Lankan slow bears are a serious endangered species, and the mainland species is a weak species of the International Union for Conservation of Nature.
