Northbridge
Northbridge is also called the memory controller hub by Intel, and it resides in the mainboard of the computer. Northbridge typically manages communications between CPU, RAM, BIOS ROM, PCI Express graphics cards, and Southbridge. Means an integrated circuit that controls a high-speed device such as a CPU, a RAM, or a graphics card attached to a computer. The Northbridge did not exist on the initial motherboard, but the peripheral clock speed could not keep up with the speedup of the CPU, so it came out of the CPU. It is common to have a heatsink or cooling fan on the chipset because it generates as much heat as it controls high-speed devices. As the process technology evolves, there are many types of Northbridge with built-in GPUs. Modern CPUs have a built-in memory controller that communicates with the memory, so the latest Northbridge does not function as a memory controller.
