균근(菌根) 중 균사가 고등식물의 뿌리의 표면, 또는 표면에 가까운 조직 속에 번식하여 균사는 세포간극에 들어가지만 뿌리의 세포 내에까지 침입하지 않는 것으로, 균체는 식물체로부터 탄수화물의 공급을 받는 한편 토양 중의 부식질을 분해하여 유기질소 화합물을 뿌리가 흡수하여 동화할 수 있는 형태로 식물에 공급한다.
