The Onadidae
The Onadai means "straight stones," or "standing stones," and is one of six American Indian tribes based outside of New York that make up the Iroquois League. They themselves call themselves 'Haudenosauni', which is derived from their co-residential and residential style. Historically, the Onadai are known as tribes that appeared in the 14th century. They have since lived in an area of about 24,000 square kilometers near Lake Onarida and central Ontario, Madison County. The Great Swamp in the south of the lake was an important wetland that became the optimal settlement. After the American Revolutionary War, they had to transfer over 1,200 km 2 of land, and since then have been continually eroded. Under federal pressure, many Ontario migrants had to move to Wisconsin in the 18th century, and some of the British troops moved to Canada.
