Sigmund Freud is the founder of the Austrian psychiatrist psychoanalytic school. Freud is very famous for inventing a psychoanalytic approach to treatment of psychopathology through a theory of the unconscious and oppressive defense mechanisms and through dialogue between the patient and the psychoanalyst. He has also defined libido as the main motivation energy in human life, also known as free association, the theory of emotional transfer in the therapeutic relationship, and the therapeutic technique of observing unconscious desires through dreams. And Freud was also an early neurologist who studied cerebral palsy. Freud 's methods and ideas have an important place in the history of clinical psychodynamics, although many of Freud' s theories have been abandoned or modified in neo - liberalism, and at the end of the 20th century the field of psychology has evolved to reveal many deficiencies in Freud 's theory. His thoughts continue to influence humanities and some social sciences.

지그문트 프로이트는 오스트리아의 정신과 의사 정신분석학파의 창시자이다. 프로이트는 무의식과 억압의 방어 기제에 대한 이론, 그리고 환자와 정신분석자의 대화를 통하여 정신 병리를 치료하는 정신분석학적 임상 치료 방식을 창안한 것으로 매우 유명하다. 또 그는 성욕을 인간 생활에서 주요한 동기 부여의 에너지로 새로이 정의하였으며, 자유 연상, 치료 관계에서 감정 전이의 이론, 그리고 꿈을 통해 무의식적 욕구를 관찰하는 등 치료 기법으로도 알려져 있다. 그리고 프로이트는 뇌성마비를 연구한 초기 신경병 학자이기도 하였다. 신프로이트주의에서 프로이트의 많은 이론을 버리거나 수정하였으며, 20세기 말에 심리학 분야가 발전하면서 프로이트 이론에서 여러 결함이 드러났으나, 프로이트의 방법과 관념은 임상 정신 역학의 역사에서 중요한 위치를 차지하고 있다. 그의 생각은 인문 과학과 일부 사회 과학에서 계속 영향을 주고 있다.
