Polymyxin B is an antibiotic substance produced by aerobic bacteria in soil, has a polypeptide structure, and has a narrow antimicrobial spectrum and almost selectively acts on Gram-negative bacteria. It acts on sterilizing power like penicillin. It is rapidly absorbed by oral and intramuscular injection, but excretion is relatively late. Clinically, almost all other antibiotics are useful for infections caused by ineffective P. aeruginosa. There are a lot of side effects, including kidney failure, perception, and neurological disorders. 폴리믹신B 토양중의 호기성균이 생성하는 항생물질로 폴리펩티드의 구조를 가지며 항균 스펙트럼이 좁고 거의 선택적으로 그람음성균에만 작용하는 것이 특색이다. 페니실린과 같은 살균력에 작용한다. 경구 및 근육주사로 신속하게 흡수되는데 배설은 비교적 늦다. 임상적으로는 다른 항생물질의 거의 대부분이 무효인 녹농균에 의한 감염에 대해서 유용하다. 부작용은 상당히 많아 신장장애, 지각장애, 신경장애 등이 있다.
