Social democracy or socialism is the ideology that has been developed from the theoretical succession of Eduard Bernstein by socialism and classical socialism developed in the late 19th century by the national socialism proposed by Rodbertus and Ferdinand La Salle, It means socialism that reforms the problems of capitalism in a gradual way through the democratic politics of the parliament instead of the revolution in accordance with the political change in which the democracy developed. Social democracy is derived from social reform schools, one of the socialist factions, and is a collective of revisionist Marxism and surrogate democracy.

사회민주주의 또는 사민주의는 19세기 말 로드베르투스와 페르디난트 라살레가 제창한 국가사회주의를 모체로하여 에두아르트 베른슈타인이 이론적 계승을 통해 발전된 사회주의이고, 고전적인 사회주의에서 갈라져 나온 이데올로기이며, 참정권의 확대로 민주주의가 발달한 정치변화에 따라 혁명 대신 의회 민주주의 정치를 통해 점진적인 방법으로써 자본주의의 문제점들을 개혁해나가는 사회주의를 뜻한다. 사회민주주의는 사회주의 분파중 하나인 사회 개량 학파에서 파생되었으며, 수정주의적 마르크스주의와 대리 민주주의의 집산체이다.
