Saint Petersburg
Saint Petersburg is a federal city in the northwest of Russia. It is located on the estuary of the Neva River, and is built on a number of islands created by the natural islands and canals of the Delta region. It is located on the Baltic Sea of the Baltic Sea. In the past, it was also called Petrograd and Leningrad. On January 21, 1924, when Lenin died, he was called Leningrad in commemoration of him on January 26, 1924, and on September 6, 1991 he regained his former name. Founded in 1703 by Tsar Peter the Great of Russia, this city was the capital of the Russian Empire until 1718, when it was reopened in Moscow in 1713. In 1918 the capital was moved back to Moscow. As of 2010, there are 5,000,000 inhabitants, the second largest city in Russia after the capital Moscow, and the fourth most populous city in Europe. It is Russia's largest industrial city after Moscow and is characterized by the manufacture of complex precision machinery. There are manufacturing plants of ships, turbines, generators, diesel engines, tractors, machine tools, instruments, and various devices, and also chemical industry, textile industry, printing industry and so on.
