조선 말기의 학자이다. 생원시에만 합격했을 뿐 과거에는 연연해하지 않았다. 그 지방의 관찰사와 암행어사 등의 추천으로 여러 번 관직이 내렸으나 모두 사양하고 나아가지 않았다. 고향에서 학문을 쌓고 후학을 양성하였다. 송시열의 학통의 따랐으며, 문집인 《임재집》이 전한다.
