Sungkyunkwan University
Sungkyunkwan University is a private university in Korea. In 1398, Joseon inherited the tradition of the Sungkyunkwan National University, which was established in the Chungbang area in accordance with the founding principle of Confucianism. Sungkyunkwan, who was the National College of Education, was renamed the Academy of Sciences in 1887 and abolished in 1894. Then, in 1895, according to the Edict of King Gojong, Sungkyunkwan was established as a Confucian educational institute. This period marked the transformation from Sungkyunkwan University into a modern college. The Department of Confucianism teaches mainly the Confucian scriptures but adds modern disciplines such as history, geography, and mathematics. Sungkyunkwan was later renamed Sungkyunkwan University in 1911 by the name of the Academy, which was abolished in 1894 by the Japanese Empire. Since then, in 1920s, as a result of raising the educational level of the nation, the Japanese government had to establish the 'Myung Ryn School'
