Therefore, continuous reduction of adrenocortical steroids, or all-day use, ACTH, and anabolic hormone combination are performed for prevention. 스테로이드금단증 교원병(膠原病) 및 기타 부신피질스테로이드계를 장기간 복용하고 있던 환자가 급히 그의 사용을 중지함으로써 일어나는 증후군을 말한다. 1955년 Henneman은 19명이 천식환자를 대상으로 이를 설명하였는데, 증상은 발열, 식욕부진, 오심(惡心), 전신권태감, 근육통, 관절통, 두통, 의식장애, 쇼크증상 등이다. 코티코스테로이드의 장기사용에 의하여 부신 기능이 억제(간뇌하수체의 억제, ACTH분비저하, 부신피질의 위축, 콜티졸의 분비저하)되기 때문에 일어나는 급성부신피질부전이 원인으로 생각되고 있다. 따라서 그의 예방을 위해서는 부신피질스테로이드의 지속적인 감소, 또는 격일 사용, ACTH, 단백동화호르몬병용이 행하여진다.
