Syracuse
Syracuse (Italian: Siracusa Syracuse, Greek: Συρακούσαι or Συρακούσα Syracuse (ancient), Syracuse, Latin: Syracusa Syracuse) is a city on the southeast coast of the Italian island of Sicily. The population is 125,673 (2000) and is the capital of Siracusa. The old town of Siracusa, which Cicero described as "the greatest Greek city and the most beautiful," is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. An old town built in the Greek period, the old town is located on Ortigia (Italian: Ortigia), a small island isolated by the Sicilian islands and narrow straits, but the new city extends to the island of Sicily. Decontamination business is the center of production and fishery of soap, cement, olive oil, wine. The Temple of Apollo and the Greek theater have many ancient Greek / Roman ruins and are well known as tourist attractions.
