Ultramicrotome Precision microtomes for creating ultra-thin sections for electron microscopy are called ultra-microtomes. Conventional microtomes that thinly cut sections for optical microscopes have a thickness of 4-6 μm, while ultra-microtomes cut to 60-90 nm. Ultra-microtome blades also use diamond blades or glass blades. 울트라마이크로톰 전자현미경용의 초박절편(超薄切片)을 작성하기 위한 정밀한 마이크로톰을 울트라마이크로톰이라고 한다. 광학현미경용의 절편을 얇게 자르는 통상의 마이크로톰이 4~6㎛의 두께인데 비해서 울트라마이크로톰은 60~90nm로 자른다. 울트라마이크로톰의 날도 다이아몬드날 또는 유리날을 사용한다.
