Waitakere
Waitakere City is New Zealand's fifth largest city. It belongs to the Auckland region. Population 208,100 people. The Waitakere Mountains occupy the majority. The Waitakere River starts from the northwest slope of the mountain range and flows into the Tasman Sea. Upstream is a dam that is used to supply water to the city of Auckland. Waitakere is Maori, meaning "deep brook". The city covers 39,134 hectares of the northwest coastline of Manukau Harbor, stretching to the Tasman Sea to the west, Waitamata Harbor to the east, and the Waitakere River to the north. The area is roughly trampled into one third of the wilderness, one third of the city, and one third of the countryside. The major industries in the city are dairy farming, fruit growing, winemaking, and gardening. The tourism industry is also developing, attracting people by surfing the Tasman Sea coast and taking a walk through the forests of the Waitakere Mountains. 13% of the city's population is Maori, 14% are from the South Pacific, and 11% are from Asia.
