Ciku is a plant that produces edible fruit. Many are sold in markets including farmers' markets, and vegetable markets. Ciku or its scientific name Manilkara zapota is from the genus Achras in the sapotaceae family. Like papayas, ciku is also believed to have come from the Tropical America. Ciku is a green tropical plant that can reach a height of 10-30 meters. Ciku fruit is fruitful throughout the year but its income is not uniform. The cichlid is generally shaped in an oval where the diameter is between 5-9 cm and weighs between 75-250 gm. The main factors determining the grade and the type of ciku fruit are the shape, size, color of the contents and taste. In Malaysia, the varieties of ciku that can be found are Heart, Betawi, Sand and Subang. The cohesion generally takes between 6-8 months from the flowering period to reach maturity. However, the ciku quoted after 7 months of flowering is bigger and sweeter. Cakes can also be made jam, juice, dried cinnamon and can be cut into slices to make sherbets and cookies. Pokok Ciku merupakan tumbuhan yang menghasilkan buah yang boleh dimakan. Ciku banyak terjual di pasar-pasar termasuk pasar tani, dan pasar sayur. Ciku atau nama saintifiknya Manilkara zapota adalah dari genus Achras dalam famili sapotaceae. Seperti buah betik, ciku juga dipercayai berasal dari Amerika Tropika. Pokok ciku merupakan tumbuhan tropika hijau yang boleh mencapai ketinggian di antara 10-30 meter. Pokok ciku berbuah sepanjang tahun tetapi penghasilannya adalah tidak seragam. Buah ciku pada amnya berbentuk bujur dimana diameternya di antara 5-9 cm dan beratnya di antara 75-250 gm. Faktor-faktor utama penentu gred dan jenis sesuatu buah ciku ialah bentuk, saiz, warna isi dan citarasanya. Di Malaysia, varieti ciku yang boleh didapati ialah Jantung, Betawi, Pasir dan Subang. Buah ciku pada amnya mengambil masa di antara 6-8 bulan dari tempoh berbunga untuk mencapai kematangan. Walau bagaimanapun, ciku yang dipetik selepas 7 bulan berbunga adalah lebih besar dan manis. Buah ciku juga boleh dibuat jem, jus, kepingan ciku kering dan ditinkan dalam bentuk kepingan untuk membuat sherbet dan kandi.
