Kuala Lumpur
Kuala Lumpur or its full name Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur, is the capital and largest city in Malaysia. The Federal Territory covers 244 km2, occupying 1.63 million people according to the 2010 census. Kuala Lumpur belongs to a large metropolitan area which also covers most of the state of Selangor, the Klang Valley, a group of 7.2 million inhabitants, and as well as the fastest growing metropolitan area in the country in terms of population and economy. Kuala Lumpur is the seat of the Malaysian Parliament, and has also been the location of the executive and judicial branches of the federal government which currently stands in Putrajaya since 1999. However, there are some permanent judicial branches in the capital. The Yang di-Pertuan Agong official residence, the Istana Negara, is also located in Kuala Lumpur. The city is also a cultural and economic center of Malaysia because of its position as the capital and primate city.
