Murut

The Murut settled in the interior and southeast of Sabah and the border area between Borneo and Sarawak. The Murut tribe is the third largest tribe in Sabah. Their residences include Tenom, Kemabong, Pensiangan and Keningau. They used to live in longhouses and live harmoniously in large families. Most of them are migrant farmers, hunters and river fishers. They also conduct forest harvesting. Currently there are already muruts who serve in the public sector in education, health and defense. The word 'Murut' refers to a group of people living on the hillside or highlands in the interior of Sabah. Muruts are found in several areas such as Keningau, Tenom, Pensiangan, Sipitang, Kalabakan and Kinabatangan. The Murut are divided into Murut Tahol or Tagal, Tidung, Timugon, Sembakung, Paluan, Bookan, Kalabakan, Murut Serundung and Murut Lundayeh / Lun Bawang. Where Murutians represent 2.9% of Sabah's population of about 50,000. Murut tribes are also found in Brunei, Sarawak and the Borneo border. Kaum Murut menetap di pedalaman dan kawasan tenggara Sabah serta wilayah perbatasan antara Kalimantan dan Sarawak. Suku kaum Murut adalah suku kaum ketiga terbesar di Sabah. Tempat tinggal mereka termasuk Tenom, Kemabong, Pensiangan dan Keningau. Dahulu mereka tinggal di dalam rumah panjang dan hidup harmoni dalam keluarga besar. Kebanyakan mereka adalah petani berpindah, pemburu dan penangkap ikan sungai. Mereka juga mejalankan pemungutan hasil hutan.Pada masa kini kaum murut sudah ada yang berkhidmat dalam sektor awam dalam bidang pendidikan, kesihatan dan pertahanan. Perkataan ‘Murut’ merujuk kepada kumpulan penduduk yang tinggal di lereng bukit atau tanah tinggi di Pedalaman Sabah. Murut terdapat di beberapa kawasan seperti Keningau, Tenom, Pensiangan, Sipitang, Kalabakan dan Kinabatangan. Kaum Murut terbahagi kepada Murut Tahol atau Tagal, Tidung, Timugon, Sembakung, Paluan, Bookan, Kalabakan, Murut Serundung dan Murut Lundayeh/ Lun Bawang. Dimana kaum Murut mewakili sebanyak 2.9% daripada penduduk di Sabah iaitu lebih kurang 50,000 orang. Suku kaum Murut juga terdapat di Brunei, Sarawak dan sempadan Kalimantan.
