RIDA is the old name for MARA. RIDA College was built in Petaling Jaya. Then RIDA College was enlarged into MARA Institute of Technology. Now known as Universiti Teknologi MARA. RIDA has a deep understanding of the development of the Malay economy. The Federation of Malaya Federation of Legislative Assemblies has agreed to establish RIDA stands for 'Village Development Authority \u0026 Company or Rural \u0026 amp; Industrial Development Authority in 1950 to provide comfort and elevate the socio-economic status of the rural population. The 'Want to Help Yourself' concept often spoken by Dato 'Onn Jaafar to be the basis for his role. The efforts to provide infrastructure for rural development such as building roads, school bridges, health centers, community halls, clean water and other facilities in mutual cooperation have been mobilized to enhance the livelihood of the people. However, the role of the RIDA is limited and discussions on the socio-economic problems of the Malays are among the issues in the First Bumiputera Economic Congress on 5-7 June 1965.

RIDA ialah nama lama bagi MARA. Maktab RIDA telah dibina di Petaling Jaya. Kemudian Maktab RIDA diperbesarkan menjadi Institut Teknologi MARA. Kini dikenali sebagai Universiti Teknologi MARA. RIDA mempunyai erti yang mendalam bagi membangunkan ekonomi orang Melayu. Majlis Mesyuarat Undangan Persekutuan Tanah Melayu telah bersetuju untuk menubuhkan RIDA adalah singkatan dari 'Lembaga Kemajuan Kampung & Perusahaan atau Rural & Industrial Development Authority pada 1950 dalam usaha memberi keselesaan dan meninggikan taraf sosio ekonomi penduduk luar bandar. Konsep 'Mahu Menolong Diri Sendiri'yang sering dilaungkan oleh Dato' Onn Jaafar menjadi asas untuk memainkan peranannya. Usaha menyediakan kemudahan infrastruktur pembangunan luar bandar seperti membina jalan raya, jambatan sekolah, pusat kesihatan, balai raya, bekalan air bersih dan lain-lain kemudahan secara gotong royong digerakkan untuk meningkatkan tahap kehidupan rakyat. Namun begitu, peranan yang dijalankan oleh RIDA adalah agak terbatas dan perbincangan tentang masalah sosio ekonomi orang-orang Melayu menjadi antara isu di Kongres Ekonomi Bumiputera Pertama pada 5-7 Jun 1965.
