Songket is a kind of fabric that is usually woven with traditional machines, and has a complicated pattern of gold or silver thread. Songket words mean to bring out or pull yarns out of cloth or weave on gold and silver threads. Historically, it is only used by nobles - royal families and big people. Woven fabric and the complexity of the songket pattern motif when it describes the rank and position of a magnified person. It has been well known in Malaysia and Indonesia since the past 13th century. Songket has a high historical value as a grand heritage fabric. In addition to raising the dignity of the wearer, songket weaving and songket symbolizes a person's position. Songket merupakan sejenis kain yang biasanya ditenun dengan mesin tradisional, dan mempunyai corak rumit benang emas atau perak. Perkataan songket bermaksud membawa keluar atau menarik benang daripada kain atau menenun menggunakan benang emas dan perak. Dari segi sejarah, ia hanya dipakai golongan bangsawan - keluarga kerabat diraja dan orang besar negeri. Kehalusan tenunan dan kerumitan motif corak songket ketika itu menggambarkan pangkat dan kedudukan tinggi seseorang pembesar. Ia telah terkenal di Malaysia dan Indonesia sejak abad ke-13 yang lampau. Songket punya nilai sejarah yang tinggi sebagai fabrik warisan agung. Selain mengangkat martabat si pemakai, motif dan warna tenunan songket melambangkan kedudukan seseorang.
