Achilles

Achilles

Achilles - in Greek mythology hero and hero of the Trojan War. He was the son of Peleus, the king of one of the cities of Thessaly, and the Nereida of the Tethys. He was educated at the wise centenary of Chejron and father of Neoptolemos. Iliad of Homer and Cypria characterize him as the greatest warrior. Tetyda, trying to assure him immortality, soon after birth immersed her son in Styx, in order to immunize his whole body for blows. The only weak point remained the heel for which the mother held the baby. In connection with the prophecy that, without Ahilles, the victory over Ilion was unrealistic, but that he would pay his death, Tetyda hid Achilles among the daughters of King Likomedes on Skyros. From there, Odysseus, who in disguise of the merchant, spread the perfume and valuables in front of the princesses. At the sight of one uninterested in the scent, the princess extracted a richly inlaid sword, which Achilles reached without a moment's thought, thereby revealing his true identity. Achilles was killed before Troy was captured. Achilles – w mitologii greckiej heros i bohater wojny trojańskiej. Uchodził za syna Peleusa, króla jednego z miast w Tesalii, i Nereidy Tetydy. Był wychowankiem mądrego centaura Chejrona i ojcem Neoptolemosa. Iliada Homera i Cypria charakteryzują go jako największego wojownika. Stamtąd miał go wydostać Odyseusz, który w przebraniu kupca rozłożył przed królewnami pachnidła i kosztowności.
