List of Rohirrim

Lista Rohirrimów

This is an article about a collective character created by J.R.R. Tolkien's medieval mythology. It included the people of Rohirrim, the inhabitants of Rohan. Prior to the founding of this kingdom, whose territory was originally a part of Gondor, they inhabited other territories and were then called Éothéodami. Most of them are episodic characters appearing in the Lord of the Rings or in Tolkien's texts describing the earlier history of this people. The kings of Rohan, as well as the characters that are more important for mythology, are presented in separate articles. The list is arranged alphabetically by name, but it should be added that Rohirrim and Éothéodzi bear names of Old English forms. It was Tolkien's conscious effort, for the writer accepted a convention according to which the Lord of the Rings was to be a translation of the fictitious source, the Red Book. Thus, Old English tones were used as translations of names from the original Rohirrim language. Slightly different were treated to the early Éothéod rulers.
