Dendera is a city in Upper Egypt, on the right bank of the Nile; In ancient times worship center of goddess Hathor. Junet - Dendera, the name written in hieroglyphics. The town was already in the Old Kingdom. During the Ptolemaic period a temple was built there. King Nektanebo I of the XXX dynasty built his mammisi here, it is the oldest of its kind found in Egypt. During Roman rule, the Temple of Isis, Mammisi Nero and the Chapel of the New Year were built here. The best preserved monument in Dendery is the Hathor Temple. Its construction began in the reign of Ptolemy IX and was completed in the days of Nero. The temple stood on the site of an older building, probably dating from the time of Cheops. The layout of today's buildings is very different from the classical Egyptian buildings. The temple is not preceded by pylons, nor is there a courtyard with porticoes. The building was facing the Nile towards the Nile. The walled courtyard precedes the entrance to the pronaosu. Behind it is a hypostyle hall, closed on the sides of storage rooms, a perfume studio, a vault, etc.

W okresie Ptolemejskim zbudowano tu jej świątynię. Król Nektanebo I z XXX dynastii zbudował tu swoje mammisi, jest to najstarszy zabytek tego typu odnaleziony w Egipcie. Podczas panowania rzymskiego powstały tu: świątynia Izydy, mammisi Nerona oraz kaplica Nowego Roku. Najlepiej zachowanym zabytkiem na terenie Dendery jest świątynia Hathor. Jej budowę rozpoczęto za panowania Ptolemeusza IX a zakończono w czasach Nerona. Świątynia stanęła na miejscu starszej budowli, pochodzącej najprawdopodobniej z czasów Cheopsa. Plan zachowanej do dnia dzisiejszego budowli mocno się różni od klasycznych budowli egipskich. Świątyni nie poprzedzają pylony, nie ma też dziedzińca z portykami. Budowla została zwrócona fasadą w kierunku Nilu. Dziedziniec otoczony murem poprzedza wejście do pronaosu. Za nim znajduje się sala hypostylowa, zamknięta po bokach pomieszczeniami magazynowymi, pracownią perfum, skarbcem itp.
