Dipisi

Dipisi - the term used by Allied to those who "in the aftermath of the war were outside their own country and want to either return to their homeland or find a new homeland, but without help they can not do so." In the immediate post-World War II period dipasses were previously deported to forced labor in the Third Reich, primarily from Eastern Europe, prisoners of war and prisoners released from concentration camps. These people did not return immediately after their liberation to their countries and were placed in special camps. Mostly they were former concentration camps, punitive or prisoners, sometimes also requisitioned apartments. It is estimated that at the end of 1945 there were more than 7 million people living in such camps, of which 90% were eventually returned to their countries. Three years after the war, there were 370 camps in the British, French and American occupation zones, 120 in Austria, and 25 camps in Italy, with 800,000 refugees in total.
