Donetsk Coal Basin, abbreviated Donbas - industrial district in eastern Ukraine and southwestern Russia. It lies on the Doñana River, in the geographical region with many historical and cultural traditions. The region also includes the Chachen Coal Basin. The region is rich in coal deposits, mercury and rock salt. The main cities of Donbas, apart from Donetsk, which are considered as unofficial capitals are: Makiejewka, Gorłówka, Jenakijewe, Stachanov, Alchevsk, Krasny Łucz and Konstantinovka. Donbas is the region with the highest population density, taking into account all regions of Ukraine. Apart from coal mining, the iron and steel ore industry has developed here, based on the iron ore and nickel from the Crimea and Nikopol. The main centers of metallurgy are: Donetsk, Jenakijewe and Kramatorsk. In Mariupol on the Azov Sea is the second largest Ukrainian mill. The metallurgical industry is associated with metallurgy, the production of equipment for the metallurgical and mining industry, rolling stock, machine tools and construction machines.

Leży nad Dońcem, w krainie geograficznej o licznych tradycjach historycznych i kulturowych. Region obejmuje także Szachtyńskie Zagłębie Węglowe. Region jest bogaty w złoża węgla kamiennego, rtęci i soli kamiennej. Głównymi miastami Donbasu, oprócz Doniecka, który jest uważany za jego nieoficjalną stolicę są: Makiejewka, Gorłówka, Jenakijewe, Stachanow, Ałczewśk, Krasny Łucz oraz Konstantynówka. Donbas jest regionem o największej gęstości zaludnienia, biorąc pod uwagę wszystkie regiony Ukrainy. Oprócz wydobycia węgla kamiennego, rozwinął się tu przemysł hutniczy, na bazie rud żelaza i niklu dowożonych z Krzywego Rogu i Nikopola. Głównymi ośrodkami hutnictwa są: Donieck, Jenakijewe i Kramatorsk. W miejscowości Mariupol nad Morzem Azowskim znajduje się druga co do wielkości huta Ukrainy. Z hutnictwem związany jest przemysł elektromaszynowy, produkcja urządzeń dla hutnictwa i górnictwa, taboru kolejowego, obrabiarek i maszyn budowlanych.
