Drumlin

Drumlin

Drumlin - a form of glacial surface. It is a low, oval hill with longitudinal, asymmetrical profile. Drumlins are usually built of glacial clay, fluvioglacial sediments, sometimes containing rock material or substrate material extruded by the glacier. They probably formed from the material deposited by the ice sheet, which was later transformed by ice pressure, detonation, and ice activities. Presumably, the drumline was formed either by sliding the glacier over the clay ground and modeling the clay by dipping it into the cracks or by clay covered with moraine clay, older, oblong, sandy and gravel forms of the substrate. Drumlines are usually gathered, arranged in a fan or parallel to form a drumline. Their dimensions, shapes and direction of elongation are approximately equal in a given area. Drumline areas are usually found on the moraine hills near the hilly headland-moraine zone. Drumlin – forma ukształtowania powierzchni ziemi pochodzenia glacjalnego.
