Fronton, abutment - in classical architecture low triangular top of the porch, limited by the side edges of the gable roof. Used in Greek temples from about 650 BC. The inner front area, smooth or filled with carving decoration, is called tympanum. As an ornamental element it is also used as a decorative top of window and door frames, portals, altars, niches, etc. In modern architecture you can also see fronts that are part of a circle, semi-circular, interrupted or played. Fronton, przyczółek – w architekturze klasycznej niski trójkątny szczyt nad portykiem, ograniczony krawędziami bocznymi dachu dwuspadowego. Stosowany w świątyniach greckich od ok. 650 r. p.n.e.. Wewnętrzne pole frontonu, gładkie lub wypełnione dekoracją rzeźbiarską, nosi nazwę tympanonu. Jako element ornamentowy stosowany jest także jako dekoracyjne zwieńczenie obramowań okiennych i drzwiowych, portali, ołtarzy, nisz itd. W architekturze nowożytnej spotkać można również frontony stanowiące segment kręgu, półowalne, przerywane lub gierowane. Błędne jest określanie tym terminem fasady budowli.
