Frottage

Frottage - technique of imprinting any object on the paper surface by applying paper to a given item and rubbing it with a strong pencil. The technique used as an artistic method for the first time in the 1920s by Max Ernst. The artist was inspired by the view of the old wooden floor. In its destroyed surface he saw various figures. In order to capture it, he placed a sheet of paper on the floor and began to draw a soft pencil over it. As a result, he received a drawing that reminded him of a mysterious forest inhabited by creatures similar to birds. A whole series of such drawings was published by him in 1926 under the title Histoire Naturelle. The method of removing imprints from stone, ceramic or metal reliefs, though not under the present name, was a well-known reproduction technique in China before the time of the Eve. Similarly, archaeologists used it. ↑ Aleš Krejča: graphic arts techniques. Warsaw: Wydawnictwa Artystyczne i Filmowe, 1984, p. 63. ISBN 83-221-0270-4 ....
