Gemula

Gemula, inner bud - spherical spore form for the reproduction of asexual freshwater sponges and some marine species. It is also a dispersion stage carried by birds to enclosed water bodies. It arises in mesenchymia, in unfavorable periods. It achieves a diameter of 0.3-1 mm. These are the clusters of archaea and amebocytes, covered with a shell made by spongioblasts and reinforced with substances produced by scleroblasts. Under conditions of prolonged droughts, gemuses can survive up to 3 years. As the climate improves, spiders emerge from the spores, which settle down and develop into new sponges. Gemule are produced in temperate countries in autumn and in tropical countries before dry season. They form within the parental organism. They consist of longitudinal germinal and nutritional cells surrounded by a protective layer from temperature changes and the outermost layer of skeletal needles.

Gemula, pączek wewnętrzny – kulista forma przetrwalnikowa służąca rozmnażaniu bezpłciowemu większości gąbek słodkowodnych i niektórych morskich. Stanowi też stadium dyspersyjne przenoszone przez ptaki do zamkniętych zbiorników wodnych. Powstaje w mezenchymie, w okresach niesprzyjających. Osiąga średnicę 0,3–1 mm. Są to skupienia archeocytów i amebocytów, pokryte osłonką wytwarzaną przez spongioblasty i wzmocnioną substancjami wytwarzanymi przez skleroblasty. W warunkach przedłużającej się suszy gemule mogą przeżyć nawet 3 lata. Gdy klimat się poprawia, z przetrwalników wydostają się komórki, które osiadłszy, rozwijają się w nowe osobniki gąbek. Gemule wytwarzają się w krajach strefy umiarkowanej jesienią, a w krajach tropikalnych przed porą suchą. Tworzą się wewnątrz organizmu macierzystego. Składają się z podłużnych wewnątrz komórek zarodkowych i odżywczych otoczonych warstwą chroniącą od zmian temperatury oraz najbardziej zewnętrzną warstwą igiełek szkieletowych.
