Grog - Rum or other strong drink, diluted with water; Include citrus juice, cinnamon, hot water or sugar to improve the taste. Served once to sailors on sailing ships. The popularity of rum in the 17th century brought the Royal Navy to the day, in 1655, the day before the sailors had been replaced. Replacing weak and often overpopulated beer with half of the strong alcohol pin had a negative effect on the discipline and performance of seafarers. In an attempt to prevent unbundling, Vice Admiral Edward Vernon ordered the ration of Rum to be mixed with a quarter of water on August 21, 1740. This was to prevent "chomikering" by alcohol seamen, who later drank more at the same time in order to get drunk, and to induce them to drink water. But more importantly, sugar and lime juice were added to such diluted rum. The sailors called a new glove in honor of the admiral, who wore the Old Grog nickname because of his inseparable girdle sewn from the grogram. The Grog has contributed significantly to improving the health of seafarers.

Rosnąca w XVII wieku popularność rumu sprawiła, że w 1655 to właśnie nim zastąpiono na okrętach Royal Navy dzienne racje piwa wydzielane dotychczas marynarzom. Zastąpienie przydziału słabego i niejednokrotnie nadpsutego piwa połową pinty mocnego alkoholu miało jednak negatywny wpływ na dyscyplinę i wydajność pracy marynarzy. Pragnąc zapobiec rozprzężeniu, 21 sierpnia 1740 wiceadmirał Edward Vernon rozkazał podawać dotychczasową porcję rumu zmieszaną z kwartą wody. Miało to zapobiec "chomikowaniu" przez marynarzy alkoholu, wypijanego później w większej ilości naraz w celu upicia się, oraz skłonić ich do picia wody. Co jednak ważniejsze, do tak rozcieńczonego rumu dodawano cukru i soku z limonek. Marynarze nazwali nowy trunek grogiem na cześć admirała, który nosił przezwisko Old Grog ze względu na swój nieodłączny sztormiak uszyty z grogramu. Grog przyczynił się wydatnie do poprawy stanu zdrowia marynarzy.
